|---|---|---|
| GST to add | price × rate ÷ 100 | ₹10,000 × 18 ÷ 100 = ₹1,800 |
| Price including GST | price × (1 + rate ÷ 100) | ₹10,000 × 1.18 = ₹11,800 |
| Price before GST | inclusive price ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100) | ₹11,800 ÷ 1.18 = ₹10,000 |
| GST inside an inclusive price | inclusive price × rate ÷ (100 + rate) | ₹11,800 × 18 ÷ 118 = ₹1,800 |

Frequently asked questions
How do I add GST to a price?
Multiply the price by the GST rate and divide by 100 to get the GST, then add it. For example, 18% GST on ₹10,000 is ₹1,800, so the total is ₹11,800.
How do I remove GST from a price that includes it?
Divide the inclusive price by (1 + rate ÷ 100). For ₹11,800 at 18%, the price before GST is ₹11,800 ÷ 1.18 = ₹10,000 and the GST is ₹1,800. Don’t just take 18% off ₹11,800 – that gives the wrong answer (₹2,124).
What are the current GST rates in India?
Since 22 September 2025 (often called GST 2.0), most goods and services are taxed at 5% or 18%, with 40% for a short list of luxury and sin goods. Some items are exempt (0%), gold and silver are 3% and rough diamonds 0.25%. The older 12% and 28% slabs are kept here for past invoices.
How is GST split into CGST and SGST?
Within a state, the rate is split equally between the Centre (CGST) and the state (SGST) – 18% becomes 9% + 9%. In union territories without a legislature it’s CGST + UTGST. Between states, the whole rate is IGST.
What does a GST rate cut do to the price?
If the price before GST stays the same, an item that cost ₹1,120 at 12% costs ₹1,050 at 5% – about 6.25% cheaper. Use the rate-change check to see the effect on any price.
Can I calculate GST on several items at once?
Yes – use the GST Breakup Calculator to enter a full invoice with different rates, quantities and discounts, and get a rate-wise summary.
Is the GST calculator free?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is saved.
