Mileage Calculator

Find your vehicle’s real fuel economy in km/L, L/100 km or MPG – from one trip, two odometer readings or a full fuel log – and see how it compares, what each km costs and the CO₂.

How to measure your mileage accurately

  1. Fill the tank to fullFill up until the pump clicks off and note the odometer reading (or reset the trip meter).
  2. Drive normally, then fill up againDrive as usual – ideally a few hundred km. Fill to full again and note the fuel added and the new odometer reading.
  3. Enter the numbersUse Odometer mode for one tank, or Fuel log to track every fill-up. Add the fuel price and the claimed mileage to compare and see your running cost.

Ways to get better mileage

  • Check tyre pressure monthly. Under-inflated tyres can cut mileage by a few percent and wear out faster.
  • Drive smoothly. Gentle acceleration and early gear changes save more fuel than anything else. Cruise at 50–80 km/h where you can.
  • Don’t idle. Switch off if you’ll be stopped for more than a minute.
  • Lose the extra weight. Empty the boot and remove roof racks when you don’t need them.
  • Keep up with servicing. A clogged air filter, old spark plugs or dragging brakes all waste fuel.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate mileage?

Divide the distance driven by the fuel used. If you drove 450 km on 30 litres, your mileage is 450 ÷ 30 = 15 km/L. For an accurate figure, use the full-tank method: fill to full, drive, fill to full again and divide the distance by the fuel added the second time.

Why is my mileage lower than the company’s claimed figure?

Official figures (ARAI in India, EPA or WLTP elsewhere) come from standard lab tests. Real-world mileage is usually 10–20% lower because of traffic, AC use, speed, load, tyre pressure and idling. Below about 70% of the claimed figure, it’s worth getting the vehicle checked.

How do I convert km/L to L/100 km or MPG?

L/100 km = 100 ÷ km/L. MPG (US) = km/L × 2.352, and MPG (UK) = km/L × 2.825. So 15 km/L is 6.67 L/100 km, 35.3 MPG (US) or 42.4 MPG (UK). The calculator shows all of them.

What is the full-tank method in the fuel log?

Mileage is measured between two fill-ups where the tank was filled to the top. If you top up partially in between, untick “Full” – that fuel is added to the next full fill-up so the result stays accurate.

What is good mileage for a car in India?

For petrol hatchbacks and sedans, 15–20 km/L in real driving is good; diesel cars often do 17–22 km/L and CNG cars 22–28 km/kg. Motorcycles commonly give 45–65 km/L. The rating bar shows where your figure sits for your vehicle type.

How do I calculate cost per km?

Divide the fuel price by your mileage. At ₹95 a litre and 15 km/L, each km costs ₹6.33. Enter your monthly distance to see the monthly and yearly fuel cost.

Is my fuel log saved?

Only if you press “Save in this browser”. It’s then kept on this device only and never uploaded. You can also export the log as a CSV file and import it later, and remove the saved copy at any time.

How is CO₂ per km worked out?

Burning a litre of petrol releases about 2.31 kg of CO₂, diesel about 2.68 kg and CNG about 2.75 kg per kg. For electric cars we use India’s average grid figure of about 0.71 kg per kWh. These are approximations.
