Frequently asked questions

Is the text in the PDF selectable and searchable?

Yes. The PDF contains real text, not pictures of text, so you can select, copy and search it, and screen readers can read it.

Can I convert Hindi, Tamil, Chinese or emoji?

The built-in PDF fonts (Helvetica, Times and Courier) cover English and Western European characters only. For other scripts, choose “Your font file” and pick a .ttf or .otf font that covers them, such as Noto Sans. For scripts where letters join or change shape, like Hindi and Tamil, use “Print / Save as PDF” – your browser lays those out correctly.

What Markdown is supported?

With “Format # headings and lists” on, lines starting with #, ## or ### become headings, lines starting with -, * or 1. become list items with a hanging indent, **bold markers** are removed and --- adds a gap. Everything else is printed as written.

How do I start a new page?

Each file you add starts on a new page. In pasted text, a form-feed character (used by many old reports) also starts a new page.

Why does a line wrap even though it fits in my editor?

Lines wrap at the page margin. Use a smaller font, narrower margins, landscape orientation or Courier for code and fixed-width tables.

Which file encodings can I open?

UTF-8 (with or without a byte order mark), UTF-16, and older Windows-1252 text files are detected automatically.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The PDF is created in your browser with the open-source pdf-lib library.
