      How to count the days until a date

      1. Choose the dateTap a holiday such as Christmas or New Year, or type your own event name and date. Add a time if the event starts later in the day.

      Ways to use a day countdown

      • Exams and deadlines: check “Weekdays in between” to see how many study or working days you really have.
      • Trips and holidays: add the departure time so the live clock counts down to the minute you leave.
      • Weddings and big events: save the countdown and add it to your calendar with a reminder the day before.
      • With children: “Sleeps” tells them how many nights are left until a birthday or Christmas.

      Days, weeks and months explained

      Days are counted from today’s date to the event date. Weeks are the days divided by seven, with the remainder shown as days. Months are counted as whole calendar months first, then the extra days – so 31 days might be “1 month and 0 days” or “1 month and 3 days” depending on the months in between.

      Frequently asked questions

      How many days until Christmas?

      Tap Christmas and the countdown shows the exact days left to 25 December, plus a live clock to midnight. The holidays list below the tool shows how many days remain until each upcoming holiday.

      How are the days counted?

      The tool counts calendar days from today to the event date, so if the event is tomorrow it shows 1 day. Tick “Count today as a day” to include today as well, which adds one.

      What are “sleeps”?

      Sleeps are the number of nights left before the day – a popular way to count down with children. It’s the same as the days left when you don’t count today.

      Which weekdays are counted?

      “Weekdays in between” counts Monday to Friday between today and the event, not counting today or the event day itself. It doesn’t remove public holidays.

      How do I add the countdown to my calendar?

      Press “Google Calendar” to open a ready-made all-day event, or “Download .ics” for Apple Calendar or Outlook. The file includes a reminder one day before.

      Can I count the days since a past date?

      Yes. Enter a date in the past and the tool shows how many days ago it was, with the time since counting up live.

      Where are my saved countdowns kept?

      Only in this browser, and only after you press Save. Nothing is uploaded. Clearing your browser data removes the list.

      How are Easter and Thanksgiving dates worked out?

      Easter Sunday is calculated with the standard Western (Gregorian) church rule, and US Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November. Mother’s Day and Father’s Day follow the US dates, which India also uses.
