Frequently asked questions

Can this colourize a black-and-white photo automatically?

Not like AI colourization services, which guess the real colours of skin, sky and clothes. This tool adds colour tones to black-and-white photos with a gradient map – for example sepia or a soft hand-tinted look – where the shadows, mid-tones and highlights each get a colour you choose.

How do I change one colour in a photo to another?

Tick “Change one colour”, press “Pick from photo” and click the colour you want to change, then choose the new colour. Widen the range to catch more shades of the original colour.

What is split toning?

Split toning adds one colour to the shadows and another to the highlights – such as teal shadows and orange highlights for a cinematic look. Balance moves the split point.

What’s the difference between saturation and vibrance?

Saturation boosts every colour equally. Vibrance boosts dull colours more than already-strong ones, so skin tones stay natural.

How do I make a photo look warmer?

Choose the Warm or Golden hour preset, or move Temperature to the right. Move it left for a cooler, bluer look.

Will the photo lose quality?

No. The preview is scaled for speed, but the download is made at full resolution. PNG is lossless; JPG and WebP let you choose the quality.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. All processing happens in your browser.

Is the image colorizer free?

Yes, completely free with no sign-up and no watermark.
