Frequently asked questions
What is natural sorting?
It sorts numbers inside text by their value, the way people expect: item 2 comes before item 10. Plain alphabetical sorting compares character by character, which puts item 10 before item 2.
How does it handle accents and other languages?
Sorting uses your browser’s language rules, so É sorts with E and Ö with O in English. Pick a language such as German, Swedish or Hindi to follow that language’s alphabet order.
Can I sort a list of names by surname?
Yes. Choose “Last word” – “Asha Rao” and “Ben Adams” become Ben Adams, Asha Rao.
How do I sort by a column in CSV data?
Choose “Column”, then pick the column number and separator. Numbers in that column are sorted by value, text alphabetically.
Which date formats are understood?
ISO dates like 2026-10-13, day-first dates like 13/10/2026 or 13-10-26, and written dates like 13 Oct 2026 or October 13, 2026. Lines without a date are placed at the end.
Is the shuffle truly random?
Yes. It uses your browser’s cryptographically secure random generator with an unbiased Fisher–Yates shuffle. Press Shuffle again for a new order.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Sorting happens entirely in your browser.
