How to rotate an image

  1. Add a photoDrop an image, choose a file, paste one with Ctrl+V or try the sample. It stays on your device.
  2. Rotate or straightenTurn it 90° left or right, or drag the Straighten slider until the horizon lines up with the grid. Flip it if it’s mirrored.
  3. Choose the corners and downloadCrop away the empty corners, or keep the whole image on a background colour, then download in full resolution.

Straightening tips

  • Line up something that should be level – the horizon, a table edge, a window sill – with a horizontal grid line.
  • For buildings, use vertical lines such as door frames or walls instead.
  • Small angles go a long way. Most tilted photos need less than 3°.
  • Crop to fill loses a little at the edges. The bigger the angle, the more is cropped – check the output size before you download.

Frequently asked questions

How do I rotate a photo that’s sideways?

Add the photo and press Rotate left or Rotate right until it’s upright, then press Download. Phone photos usually only need one 90° turn.

How do I straighten a crooked horizon?

Drag the Straighten slider, or use the +/– buttons for 0.1° steps, until the horizon or a building edge lines up with the grid lines. The keys [ and ] also nudge the angle.

What happens to the corners when I straighten?

Rotating by an angle leaves empty triangles at the corners. “Crop to fill” cuts the largest straight rectangle out of the rotated photo, so there are no empty corners. “Keep whole image” makes the canvas bigger and fills the corners with a colour, or leaves them transparent in PNG and WebP.

Why does my photo look rotated in one app but not another?

Many cameras save the picture one way and add an orientation tag telling apps how to turn it. This tool applies that tag when it opens the photo, so the download is stored the right way up for every app.

How do I mirror or flip an image?

Press Flip horizontal for a mirror image – useful for selfies with reversed text – or Flip vertical to turn it upside down.

Will rotating reduce quality?

90° turns are lossless in pixels. Small-angle straightening resamples the image with high-quality smoothing. Choose PNG to avoid JPG compression on export.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser.

Is the image rotator free?

Yes, completely free with no sign-up and no watermark.
