Frequently asked questions
How accurate is this stopwatch?
It uses your browser’s high-resolution clock, so the time is accurate to well under a millisecond and doesn’t drift. The display updates with your screen (usually 60 times a second); press timing depends on you and your device.
Does it keep running in another tab?
Yes. The stopwatch measures time from when you pressed Start, so it stays correct while the tab is in the background – it just updates the display when you come back.
What keyboard shortcuts are there?
Space starts and stops, L records a lap, R resets and F switches fullscreen. Shortcuts work whenever you’re not typing in a box.
Can I time several people at once?
Yes. Open the Multiple tab to run up to 12 named stopwatches side by side – start them all together for a race, and stop or record laps for each one separately.
What’s the difference between lap time and split time?
Lap time is how long that lap took on its own. Split time (shown as Total) is the time from the start to the end of that lap. Both are listed, along with how much faster or slower each lap was than the one before.
Will my phone screen turn off?
With “Keep the screen on” ticked, the stopwatch asks your browser to keep the display awake while it runs, where supported. It’s released when you stop.
Are my times saved?
No – nothing is stored or uploaded. Copy or download your laps before closing the page; you’ll be warned if a stopwatch is still running.
